OREANDA-NEWS   An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 was recorded in the northern part of Chile, according to the Altai-Sayan branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to the operational processing data of the Altai-Sayan branch, the epicenter of the earthquake recorded at 03:10 Moscow time on Friday was located 177 km southeast of the city of Kalama, 50 km from the border with Argentina.

According to the intensity of the tremors in the epicenter, the earthquake is rated as "quite strong".

The US Geological Survey estimated the magnitude of the earthquake at 5.6. According to American seismologists, the source was located at a depth of 129.2 km.
