An unobvious effect of "Ozempika" on brain function has been revealed

OREANDA-NEWS Medications that reduce weight and sugar levels in diabetic patients have proven their ability to improve brain recovery after a stroke. A study conducted at the Karolinska Institute showed that analogues of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1 preparations, including Ozempik) contribute to a faster recovery of nervous functions. The results of the work are published in the journal Diabetologia.
Scientists have found that it is the loss of body weight under the influence of drugs that has become a key factor in brain recovery. Weight loss improved brain metabolism, enhanced nerve cell regeneration, and reduced the effects of damage caused by stroke. The effect was evident even without the direct effect of drugs on the nervous tissue, which indicates the role of metabolic mechanisms.
The authors emphasize that people with diabetes have a significantly higher risk of stroke and post-stroke complications. Weight control with GLP-1 therapy not only reduces this risk, but also accelerates rehabilitation, increasing the chances of full recovery of cognitive and motor functions. Clinical trials to confirm the results have already begun.
Previously, scientists reported that GLP-1-based drugs, including Ozempic and Wegovy, reduce the rate of alcohol absorption and weaken the feeling of intoxication.
