OREANDA-NEWS Armenia plays the same role for Russia that the Strait of Hormuz plays for Iran. This was stated by former Prime Minister of the post-Soviet republic Khosrov Harutyunyan, Sputnik Armenia reports in its Telegram channel.

According to him, Armenia is located on the political map like a "wedge" between the Turkic countries. In this regard, Harutyunyan emphasizes, the country's role for Russia is extremely high.

"The Strait of Hormuz plays the same role for Iran," the former prime minister stressed.

In the post-Soviet space, five independent states belong to the countries of the Turkic world: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Since 1991, the political leaders of the countries have proclaimed cultural unity with Turkey. Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called the Turkic world "an influential geopolitical center in the 21st century."
