OREANDA-NEWS  Russia has a low maternal mortality rate, and child mortality is lower than in developed European countries, said Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Federation Council.

"We have achievements that we can brag about. Our child mortality rate is lower than in developed European countries. We have a very low maternal mortality rate, which we are very happy about. Over the years, a huge number – hundreds - of perinatal centers, maternity hospitals, children's clinics, children's departments in hospitals and so on have been built," Matvienko told reporters.

For Russian President Vladimir Putin, one of the main priorities of domestic policy has always been family, children, support for families with children, attention to issues of motherhood and childhood, the parliamentarian stressed. She also added that this topic requires constant state attention.

"We have built a single coherent system of family support assistance – starting from a woman's pregnancy, ending with studies at technical schools, universities, this is a single child benefit, this is the development of children's healthcare, which today has received such a powerful development that has never been," concluded the Chairman of the Federation Council
