OREANDA-NEWS  The European Union (EU) wants to have time to adopt the 22nd package of sanctions against Russia by mid-October. This is reported by Izvestia, citing European diplomatic sources.

According to one of them, the new measures will focus mainly on combating circumvention of existing sanctions, so there probably won't be any new large-scale restrictions. "Experience has shown that instead of agreeing on complex EU packages, it is better to target specific infringing companies around the world," the source said.

It is clarified that the European Commission (EC) is currently preparing a new sanctions package, which has not yet been submitted to the EU Council for consideration. The source said that it is planned to complete all procedures by October 12, but this may happen earlier.

On July 23, the European Union adopted the 21st package of sanctions against Russia. It has become the largest in recent times. Restrictions were imposed on 170 organizations and 48 individuals, assets were frozen and funds were banned from 94 banks and 33 large financial institutions in Russia.
