OREANDA-NEWS  Doctors from Novy Urengoy performed hemithyroidectomy for the first time, an operation to remove part of the thyroid gland. The Yamal government announced the operation, which is unique for the city, on Telegram.

According to the authorities, doctors were able to access the patient's thyroid gland through a small incision, and then removed the tumor using an endoscope. The operation lasted only half an hour.

"Recovery after such an intervention will take from three to seven days. In the near future, doctors plan to introduce such operations into practice. The new integrated operating rooms have all the conditions for this," the regional government said.

Earlier it was reported that for the first time a unique operation was performed on an infant's heart at the Children's Republican Clinical Hospital of Tatarstan. A newborn with a dangerous diagnosis of "aortic coarctation" was admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit with a weight of only 1.8 kilograms.
