OREANDA-NEWS  Volcanologists on Monday recorded an ash release up to 3 km high on the Ebeko volcano on Paramushir Island of the Great Kuril Ridge (Sakhalin Region), the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Sakhalin Region told reporters.

"There was an ash release to a height of up to 3 km," the department said.

According to rescuers, the plume spread in a north-easterly direction for a distance of more than 5 km. According to the Unified Dispatching Service on Duty, there was no ashfall in the nearby city of Severo-Kurilsk. The smell of hydrogen sulfide is not felt. There is no threat to the life of the population.

Ebeko is located in the northern part of Paramushir. The height of the volcano is 1,156 m . It became active in mid-November 2016. It has an orange color code of danger for aviation. This means that the volcano is showing increased activity with a high probability of eruption.
