OREANDA-NEWS  Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan claims that the Russian side has not fulfilled its obligations to "clean up" the Syrian regions from Kurdish armed formations under the agreement of 2019.

In October 2019, Russia and Turkey signed a 10-point memorandum of understanding, in particular on the introduction of Russian military police and Syrian border service units on the Syrian side of the border with Turkey outside the zone of the Turkish operation "Source of Peace" to facilitate the withdrawal of Kurdish detachments and their weapons 30 kilometers from the Syrian-Turkish border. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu then reported that the withdrawal of the Kurds was completed ahead of schedule. After that, a joint Russian-Turkish patrol began.

"We also have an agreement with the Russian side in Sochi in 2019. They are responsible for clearing the region of terrorists. Unfortunately, although we have repeatedly reminded them of this, they have not done so and are not doing so. We said that we would not be silent and would take steps against the terrorists there if they could not do it themselves....There are no restrictions here. The continuation of this operation is on the agenda. We did everything necessary from the ground and from the air. We will continue to do this," Erdogan told reporters on the plane on his return from Qatar.
