OREANDA-NEWS  The Estonian government at a meeting on Thursday began to consider the issue of restricting the right to purchase real estate to citizens of Russia and Belarus, said the head of the Estonian Interior Ministry, Lauri Leaenemets.

"The government discussed the issue of restricting the purchase of real estate for citizens of Russia and Belarus based on security concerns. We are working on a government action program to reduce the risk of the acquired real estate being used for intelligence, sabotage or other anti-Estonian activities," he told reporters.

According to the minister, "if there are currently restrictions on the purchase of border lands, then in the future these restrictions will affect the entire territory of Estonia."

The Interior Minister noted that this issue is legally complex, and the government intends to continue discussing it.
