OREANDA-NEWS  Without Russian mineral fertilizers, the European Union (EU) will face rising food inflation. Anton Alikhanov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, warned about this. He was quoted by the Prime agency.

The Minister drew attention to the fact that EU representatives currently assure that the member states will do without this type of Russian imports. However, Alikhanov believes that the consequences will be disastrous, as the European Union will have to buy more expensive fertilizers, and this will accelerate food inflation.

In addition, the minister recalled that the whole world needs Russian fertilizers. This means that Moscow will always find buyers.

It is known from Eurostat data that on the eve of a sharp increase in duties on Russian imports, the countries of the European Union purchased mineral fertilizers from Russia. The corresponding category of exports from Russia to the EU increased by one and a half times in April, compared with the same period in 2024.

The total volume of exports of all types of fertilizers from Russia in the first five months of this year amounted to 19.2 million tons. The increase was ten percent compared to the same period last year.
