OREANDA-NEWS German roads proved powerless in the face of the heat. The canvas has cracked, writes Bloomberg.

Against the background of the 39-degree heat that has been holding in Germany for several days, the road surface could not stand it and began to crumble. Damage to roads on key sections of the autobahns led to hours of traffic jams in different parts of the country. The measures taken by the local authorities were not enough: in summer, speed limits are tightened on old sections of roads in Germany. The situation will worsen even more with the start of the summer holidays in many German lands, the newspaper emphasizes.

An unprecedented heat wave hit Europe at the end of June. An extreme heat wave has hit France, Italy, Germany and Switzerland and has led to traffic stops, school closures and power outages. In Spain, meteorologists recorded a record plus 46 degrees.
