Exercises on the use of nuclear forces have started in Russia

OREANDA-NEWS Exercises on the preparation and use of nuclear forces in the face of the threat of aggression have started in the Russian Armed Forces. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense, RIA Novosti writes.
According to the ministry, the exercises will be held from May 19 to 21. The Strategic Missile Forces, the Northern and Pacific Fleets, the long-range Aviation Command, as well as part of the forces of the Leningrad and Central Military Districts will take part in them. The events will involve 64,000 military personnel, over 7,800 units of weapons, military and special equipment, more than 140 aircraft, 73 surface ships and 13 submarines, including 8 strategic missile submarines.
As part of the exercises, they will check the readiness of military units of the nuclear forces to perform tasks, as well as launch ballistic and cruise missiles at test sites in Russia.
A day earlier, similar exercises began in Belarus. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic stated that the events are held within the framework of the Union State.
On May 17, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that nuclear deterrence is the cornerstone of the country's national security. According to him, a nuclear power cannot be threatened.
