OREANDA-NEWS Gazprom has confirmed the authenticity of a letter from Elena Ilyukhina, Deputy head of the corporation's management board, to Alexey Miller, the head of the company, with a proposal to reduce over one and a half thousand employees of the central office. This is reported by Forbes with reference to a statement by Sergey Kupriyanov, head of the energy holding's information policy department.

He called the above document relevant. However, Kupriyanov did not specify whether Miller had read Ilyukhina's letter. It remains unknown what decision the head of the corporation made. "The document is relevant. We do not plan to comment," Kupriyanov concluded.

A letter with Ilyukhina's proposal to reduce the number of Gazprom's central office from 4.1 to 2.5 thousand people began to be distributed online on Monday, January 13. The 47news publication claimed that it was about the procedural design of an already made decision.

As specified, the reason for the preparation of mass layoffs at the corporation was a number of factors. In particular, it was claimed that the management of the holding was dissatisfied with "duplication of functions and excessive bureaucratic processes." The company wants to achieve "increased employee focus on results," as well as reduce "costs at all levels of management and production processes."
