OREANDA-NEWS  Hungary strongly rejects the European Commission's plan to abandon Russian energy resources and will fight to prevent it from being adopted, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said.

"The Hungarian government will never support a proposal from Brussels that will worsen the country's energy security or lead to higher utility costs, so we strongly oppose the plan to ban energy imports from Russia," Szijjarto said at a press conference in Nagykanizh. The broadcast was conducted on his YouTube channel.

He stressed that at the meeting of EU energy ministers he would strive to "prevent the Brussels plan that would cut Hungary off from its current energy sources."

Budapest considers this issue an important part of its sovereignty and will not allow Brussels to tell Hungary from which source it can buy energy, Szijjarto said.
