OREANDA-NEWS  Canada has hit its own economy by deciding to impose sanctions on Russia, damaging relations not only with Moscow, but also with China. This is reported by the Chinese portal Baijiahao.

Canada was one of the first to support sanctions against Russia, following the example of the United States, but Washington's imitation led to a sharp deterioration in the economic situation in the country. Ottawa underestimated its dependence on the Chinese market. Beijing imposed duties on many Canadian products, including peas, pork and rapeseed, and the vacant niche was quickly occupied by goods from Russia, which unexpectedly "took revenge" on Canada.

"This country with a vast territory rich in natural resources should have prospered. However, today the future of Canada is shrouded in darkness and uncertainty," the message says.

Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney called for the early introduction of additional sanctions against Russia. "We should get down to it as soon as possible, because this is really the biggest non—military deterrent," he said.
