OREANDA-NEWS  By September, the number of jewelry stores in Russian cities with a population of more than a million people had decreased by 4.5 percent year-on-year, to 7.9 thousand outlets. "Kommersant" writes about this with reference to the data of the 2GIS service.

The NF Group explained that the decline is due to the closure of stores of small market participants, and the largest retailers continue to expand. According to the Association of Commercial Real Estate and Retail Experts (ATER), Sunlight has opened 28 stores in a year, and Sokolov has grown by ten percent compared to the beginning of 2025, to 1,100 outlets.

At the same time, according to the "Check Index", the number of purchases in jewelry stores in January-August fell by six percent. In this case, the Internet has an impact — the number of online orders has increased by ten percent. For example, Sokolov's remote sales account for about 40 percent of its total turnover.

Because of this, maintaining some outlets brings losses to retailers. As Zulfiya Shilyaeva, head of the CMWP retail real estate department, explained, the annual cost of renting space for one store can reach one hundred million rubles per year.

In parallel with the reduction in the number of jewelry stores in Russia, pawnshops are actively developing, where 95 percent of the money is spent on jewelry. At the same time, the demand for the purchase of such goods is also growing among pawnshops themselves.
