OREANDA-NEWS  The Kaliningrad seaport expects cargo turnover at the level of 8.9 million tons by the end of 2023, which will exceed the indicators of 2022 by 6-7%. The turnover of containers should grow by 35% and reach 150 thousand. TEU (units of measurement equal to a standard container with a length of 6 m), but these volumes are still lower than in 2021, Deputy Director - Head of the Kaliningrad Department of the Northwest Basin Branch of FSUE Rosmorport Andrey Moshkov said at the Neva-2023 International Exhibition.

"In 2023, we expect cargo turnover at the level of 8.9 million tons of cargo, which is a 6-7% plus compared to last year. In terms of container turnover, the expected turnover is 150 thousand TEU, which is 35% higher than in the same period last year. It is clear that the indicators of last year are a low cargo base, so container turnover is increasing," Moshkov said.

According to the statistics given by him, the record year for the container turnover of the port was 2021 - then 437.4 thousand TEUs were processed in Kaliningrad, and the next year the figure dropped to 125.4 thousand. As for the total cargo turnover, by the end of 2021 it amounted to about 10.6 million tons, of which 4.6 million tons were exported, 4 million were imported, and only 1.2 million were for coastal transportation with the regions of Russia. The record year for the port was 2018 (14 million tons of cargo) and 2008 (15.4 million tons).

Moshkov noted that in 2022-2023, the structure of cargo turnover changed significantly - there was a noticeable decrease in exports and imports (up to 3.4 million tons and 2.1 million tons, respectively, by the end of 2023), as well as a significant increase in coastal transportation - up to 3.3 million tons.
