OREANDA-NEWS Russian businessman Samvel Karapetyan has been charged with publicly calling for the seizure of power in Armenia, and they want to arrest him, the businessman's lawyer said.

Samvel Karapetyan is a Russian entrepreneur, the head of the Tashir Group of companies. Since 2023, it has been in the database of the infamous Ukrainian website "Mirotvorets". He spoke in support of the Armenian Apostolic Church against the background of attacks from the country's authorities. Pashinyan posted insulting posts to the Armenian Apostolic Church on a social network and expressed dissatisfaction with the hierarchs of the Armenian Apostolic Church.He was joined by members of the ruling Civil Contract party. The Prime Minister proposed to change the procedure for electing the Catholicos of All Armenians and consolidate the "decisive role of the Republic of Armenia" in it. He decided to create a coordination group for the removal of the current primate, Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, whose members Pashinyan is going to choose "through the eyes of the soul."

On Tuesday, June 17, the Armenian Interior Ministry reported on the holding of operational events at Karapetyan's house in Yerevan. His supporters and close families gathered there, and some of them were detained.
The businessman himself left the house and left in a police car. After that, Karapetyan's supporters gathered in front of the GUBOP police building in Yerevan.

On Monday morning, the media reported that the businessman had been transferred to the Investigative Committee of Armenia and a criminal case had been opened against him. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow was closely monitoring what was happening and would provide Karapetyan with the necessary assistance.
