According to him, an increase in the number of animals was recorded in Dmitrovsky, Istra, Mozhaisk, Domodedovo, Orekhovo-Zuyevsky and Odintsovo districts of the region.
The reason is an increase in the number of earthworms and other food sources, an increase in the area of suburban buildings (loose soil is an ideal habitat for moles), as well as a decrease in the number of foxes, weasels and owls.

"If there are more organisms, then by the next season everything will stabilize due to the appearance of natural enemies or an outbreak of diseases," commented biologist and agronomist Mikhail Vorobyov.

He recommended not destroying moles and using humane methods to protect territories, such as underground mole nets or ultrasonic repellents.
