OREANDA-NEWS   The decision of the Russian government to refuse to terminate the country's participation in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is justified. This was stated during a conversation with journalists by the press secretary of the president Dmitry Peskov, his words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

He supported the position of the Cabinet of Ministers, calling it "very reasoned." "Therefore, there is a very reasoned disagreement with such a proposal," Peskov added.

The Russian government opposed the draft law of the Communist Party faction on Russia's withdrawal from the IMF submitted to the State Duma on July 25. It proposed to invalidate the resolution of the Supreme Council of the country "On joining the International Monetary Fund, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Development Association".

On July 25, the IMF revised its April forecast for the growth rate of the Russian economy. According to the new estimate, the country's GDP will increase by 1.5 percent by the end of December instead of the expected 0.7 percent. Several factors influenced the change in the previous forecast. Among the key ones are high indicators in retail trade, the construction sector and industrial production on the Russian market in the first half of the year.
