OREANDA-NEWS  Approaches between the West and the countries of the South on Ukraine remain very different, Senator Alexei Pushkov expressed this opinion, commenting on the negotiations held in Saudi Arabia.

"Speaking about the results of the meeting in Saudi Arabia, which predictably ended without a general statement, many people together quote the Italian Corriera de la serra. She "found out" that the participants of the meeting in Jeddah supported the general, not to say ritual principles that they proclaim at the UN and in their official declarations," the senator wrote in his Telegram channel.

According to him, the Italian newspaper presented it "almost as a sensation, the success of the West and a new platform of unity.

"But this is not so — the approaches between the West and the leading countries of the Global South remain very different," Pushkov summed up. Negotiations on Ukraine were held in Jeddah over the weekend, to which representatives of about 30 countries were invited, but not Russia. As the Saudi news agency SPA reported on Sunday following the two-day meeting, the participants of the consultations agreed to continue the exchange of views.

The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov noted that the Kremlin will monitor the meeting in Saudi Arabia, it is necessary to understand what goals are being set. The Russian Foreign Ministry, commenting on the talks in Jeddah, stated that fixing decisions on the Ukrainian crisis at the political level without Russia's participation is absurd and nonsense, but there is "a full field for creativity" for their discussion.
