OREANDA-NEWS  Russian President Vladimir Putin called the International Forum of Indigenous Peoples a sought-after initiative and a serious contribution to strengthening humanitarian cooperation in Eurasia and the world, the corresponding telegram was published on the Kremlin's website.

"I welcome you at the opening of the International Forum of Indigenous Peoples... I consider holding your meeting to be an important and sought-after initiative, a serious contribution to strengthening humanitarian cooperation in Eurasia and the world as a whole," the telegram says.

The President noted that the preservation of native languages, cultures and customs of indigenous peoples is an important topic on the global agenda and requires joint efforts by government agencies and international organizations. According to him, in the Russian Federation, support for indigenous peoples is given priority.

"I would like to emphasize that Russia is committed to developing constructive cooperation in this area with all interested partners," the head of state added.

Putin noted that together with public organizations, volunteers and national associations, a lot of work is being done to preserve the heritage of indigenous peoples, improve their quality of life, and solve pressing socio-economic problems. In addition, significant projects are being implemented in the field of education, enlightenment and upbringing of the younger generation.

"I am sure that your forum will be held in a creative, businesslike manner and will serve to develop common approaches to solving urgent problems demanded by time," the president said.
