OREANDA-NEWS Russia is ready to register its lack of intention to attack Europe, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.
The President said that when discussing any agreements, everything should be "put into a diplomatic language." "Because it's one thing, in general, to say that Russia is not going to attack Europe, it sounds ridiculous to us, although we never intended to, but if they want to hear from us, well, let's fix it. There are no questions," Putin said at a press conference in Bishkek on Thursday.
And continued: "There are people there, it seems to me that they are a little crazy when they publicly, or crooks of some kind, want to get something for it, publicly tell their people, their citizens that 'Russia is preparing to attack Europe' and we need to immediately strengthen our defense potential."
Putin suggested that these people either serve the interests of the defense industry and private companies, or are somehow trying to raise their domestic political ratings against this background.
"It's hard to say what they're guided by, but from our point of view, it's complete nonsense, it's a lie. But, nevertheless, if this is promoted in the public consciousness, if they have scared their citizens and want to hear that we are not going to and we have no plans, no aggressive plans towards Europe, please, we are ready to fix it as you like," Putin said.
Perhaps, he added, it makes sense if everyone wants to talk together, discuss and put the dots on issues of pan-European security. "Yes, we proposed it ourselves once, but if our Western partners, that's what we'll call them, partners, want it now, please, we're ready, but we understand that we need to sit down and discuss it seriously, every word there matters," Putin said.
