OREANDA-NEWS RN-Vankor (part of Rosneft Oil Company) has started winter cargo delivery via the Northern Sea Route and winter roads to the fields of the Vankor and Payakh clusters located in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. It is planned to transport almost 1 million tons of cargo this season.
Six naval vessels were involved in their delivery along the Northern Sea Route during the winter navigation period. Icebreaking wiring is provided by two icebreakers. The main logistics hubs for receiving and unloading ships are three production bases in Taimyr, sea berths in the port of North Bay, as well as ice solders at the Vorontsovo and Karaul bases.
The range of goods delivered includes metal structures, pipe and cable products, reinforced concrete products, building materials, technological equipment, specialized machinery and vehicles. These resources are necessary for the construction and operation of oil production and transportation facilities for hydrocarbons.
Cargo is delivered by land via winter roads and ice crossings over rivers with a total length of over 2,000 kilometers. More than a thousand specialists and about 460 pieces of equipment are involved in laying winter roads. Automobile routes connect key production facilities in the Taimyr Dolgano-Nenets and Turukhansky districts of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
According to them, cargoes that arrived at the MTR bases during the summer navigation period, as well as cargoes delivered year-round along the Northern Sea Route, are delivered to the oilfield facilities via winter roads. More than 2,000 trucks are involved on winter roads, which this year will have to transport more than 800,000 tons of material and technical resources.
Winter roads perform not only an industrial, but also a social function. They serve as a vital transport artery for the indigenous inhabitants of Taimyr, and help nomadic reindeer herders maintain their traditional way of life. Thanks to these routes, tundra settlements are provided with food and basic necessities.
