OREANDA-NEWS  The Leninsky District Court of Orenburg found Rauf Arashukov, a former member of the Federation Council from Karachay-Cherkessia, guilty of bribing an employee of the colony.

"By the verdict of the court, the defendant was found guilty of the crime charged against him and sentenced to 10 years in prison with a fine of 20 times the amount of the bribe, that is, 120 million rubles," the press service of the Orenburg Regional Court told Interfax.

The court noted that, based on the totality of sentences for previously committed crimes, Arashukov was finally sentenced to life imprisonment in a special-regime penal colony.

The court also resolved the issue of confiscation of the seized funds in the amount of 3 million rubles transferred as a bribe, as well as 3 million rubles intended for transfer as a bribe.

The defense, in turn, said it disagreed with the court's verdict and would appeal it to a higher court.

The court found that Arashukov, who is serving a life sentence, through the mediation of a lawyer, bribed an official of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Orenburg region in the amount of 3 million rubles for creating privileged conditions for him to serve his sentence in a penal colony, and did not manage to transfer the remaining part of the money in the amount of 3 million rubles in connection with the suppression of illegal activities. activities.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, "the ex-senator did not receive any "benefits" - the attempted bribery was reported to law enforcement agencies."

The criminal case against the lawyer has been separated into separate proceedings.

"At the hearing, the defendant pleaded not guilty. However, despite the defendant's position, his guilt in giving a bribe is confirmed by the examined case materials and witness statements," the court explained.

The trial took place at an off-site meeting in the Black Dolphin penal colony No. 6 of the Orenburg Region Federal Penitentiary Service for life convicts, where Arashukov is serving his sentence.
