OREANDA-NEWS  Rural mortgage loans in Russia have plummeted. Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko spoke about the reasons for the decline in the attractiveness of this state program during the plenary session of the Forum of Rural Workers.

The volume of rural mortgage loans began to fall back in September 2024 as bank limits were exhausted. The issue reached a minimum by the beginning of 2025. As Matvienko explained, the introduction of the principle of targeting influenced the availability of mortgages. "Not so long ago, the government changed the conditions for issuing rural mortgages, they have become more targeted and targeted. The idea is essentially correct, but after these innovations, the volume of rural mortgage issuance can be said to have collapsed," the politician said. In her opinion, the housing lending tool needs to be "improved" taking into account the capabilities of the state budget.

Earlier, Matvienko named the reason for the youth's refusal to move to villages. In her opinion, the image of rural areas is mainly affected by the lack of Internet. As government services go online, the issue of providing Russian villages with the Internet is becoming extremely important.
