OREANDA-NEWS  The admission of new member states to the BRICS will help to form a new center of power in the world and strengthen the positions of countries in the international arena.

"South Africa has made a very important step forward in the formation of a multipolar world. (...) It is quite logical that today's members of this organization respond to the desire of other countries that share the values of the BRICS countries to join this organization. The specific list of these participants is also clear: Argentina, for example, was one of the first to declare its desire to join the BRICS," the deputy said.

It is very significant that such applications are received. It should be expected that these are not the last countries that will show interest in the activities of this organization

The parliamentarian stressed that the consequence of the expansion of the BRICS will be the strengthening of the multipolar world and the shift of the center of power in the international arena.

"In the world, on completely different principles than the block format led by the United States, another center of power is being formed, which disagrees with the intention to create a unipolar world and attempts to dictate the will of all mankind. Many countries on different continents see the BRICS activities as an opportunity to resist hegemonic aspirations," Novikov stressed.

The countries that are members of this organization do not consider themselves as an alternative to the UN and do not try to torpedo its activities. On the contrary, BRICS positions itself as an organization aimed at strengthening the international role of the UN

Earlier, the head of the Republic of South Africa (South Africa) Cyril Ramaphosa said that Argentina, Egypt, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia will join the BRICS from January 1, 2024.

"We have decided to invite the Argentine Republic, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to become full members of BRICS. Membership comes into force on January 1, 2024," the South African leader said.

The BRICS summit, an organization uniting Brazil, Russia, India, China and the Republic of South Africa (South Africa), is taking place in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24. The theme of the current meeting is "BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, sustainable development and inclusive multilateralism".
