OREANDA-NEWS The West needs a reason to lift anti-Russian sanctions, said Svetlana Zhurova, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs. She mentioned a possible condition for ending the restrictions in an interview with Lenta.ru".
Much of the issue of lifting anti-Russian sanctions by the West depends on US President Donald Trump and his entourage, the deputy noted. She also added that the new American leader would not be able to reverse some of the decisions of Joe Biden's predecessor, as it was quite difficult to do so.
"I would not expect a rapid warming, but if a peace agreement is signed, there is a reason. To just lift the sanctions and admit that we've been making things worse for ourselves all these years, shooting ourselves in the foot, no one wants to, so it's clear that when a peace agreement is signed and agreements are reached, then the sanctions can be lifted. But the United States won't remove everything right away anyway, I'm sure they might start with some easier options for themselves," the parliamentarian shared.
Earlier, Trump allowed the introduction of new sanctions against Russia if Moscow refuses to negotiate a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
