OREANDA-NEWS Russia has developed and started manufacturing carbon-fiber ship shafts for ships and vessels of any displacement, thereby replacing the products of German companies Centa and Vulcan, Alexey Zakharov, chief designer of the Perm Engineering Plant, told RIA Novosti.

The VMK-60-1 metal composite (carbon fiber) ship shaft is designed to transfer rotation from the main engine to the propeller. The unit was first demonstrated in June at the naval salon "Fleet-2026" in Kronstadt.
