OREANDA-NEWS  Flight tests of the Sarmat missile system were successful. This was announced on Friday, November 18, by the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) Sergey Karakaev.

"The active rearmament of Strategic Missile Forces with modern missile systems continues. Flight tests of the Sarmat missile system have been successfully conducted. Also, the launches carried out at the Plesetsk state test cosmodrome confirmed its capabilities of the Yars PGRK," he was quoted as saying in a statement by the Russian Defense Ministry.

Before that, on April 20, Russia successfully conducted the first test launch of the Sarmat in a series of state testing programs, after which the complex will enter service with the Strategic Missile Forces.

The launch took place from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region.

Sarmat is a strategic missile system with an intercontinental ballistic missile. Due to its characteristics, it is able to overcome all modern means of missile defense and is considered to be the weapon with the largest target range in the world.
