OREANDA-NEWS Russian chess player, grandmaster Alexandra Kostenyuk will compete under the Swiss flag from January 2024, the Swiss Chess Federation (FSE) reports.

According to FSE representative Peter Erisman, Kosteniuk will become a member of the Swiss women's national team. At the same time, he did not rule out that she would be able to play for the men's team, "if the need arises."

If Kostenyuk had joined the Swiss national team in 2023, FSE would have had to pay the Russian Chess Federation (FSHR) a commission of $10 thousand.
