OREANDA-NEWS Russian IT projects continue to withdraw from foreign clouds: for example, the outflow from the German provider Hetzner Online GmbH and the French cloud computing company OVH by the end of 2024 amounted to 14% each, while from the American Amazon Web Services - 8%, Google - 7% and Digital Ocean - 1%. according to a study by the Runiti group, its results are available to RIA Novosti.

The research methodology is based on calculating the number of active servers (cloud and virtual servers, VPS/VDS, dedicated) hosted in the .ru, .rf and .su domain zones for the period from December 2023 to December 2024.
"By the end of 2024, the number of Russian projects hosted on the servers of foreign cloud providers continues to decrease. The German provider Hetzner Online GmbH and the French cloud computing company OVH have the most negative dynamics - 14%, respectively. The outflow from the American provider Amazon Web Services was 8%, from Google - 7%, and from Digital Ocean - 1%," the study says.

As explained by Sergey Ryzhkov, head of the Hosting and Professional Services department, Russian cloud providers create offers based on the specifics of the region and data protection requirements. This is a competitive advantage compared to foreign companies.

We compared how the traffic dynamics in Russian domain zones have changed. By the end of 2024, there is still a steady decline, but the peak has already passed. The largest number of outflows occurred in 2023, according to Asya Vartazaryan, the head of analytics at Runiti Group. She explained that this is usually associated with Russian businesses' unwillingness to bear the risk of being cut off from access due to restrictive measures.
