OREANDA-NEWS Scientists at the Kurchatov Institute have developed a classifier program that is able to diagnose schizophrenia with 85% accuracy using MRI of the patient's brain. The program is planned to be used in medical practice, and in addition, for further research of the disease — because the causes of its occurrence are still completely unknown. The work is carried out jointly with specialists of the Psychiatric Clinical Hospital No. 1 named after N.A. Alekseev.

Using the classifier, scientists were able to identify eight regions in the brain, changes in the functioning of which in the vast majority of cases indicate a mental disorder. In total, the program analyzes the work of more than a hundred brain areas.
