Russians complain less about garbage

OREANDA-NEWS The number of complaints from citizens regarding the management of municipal solid waste (MSW) has been decreasing for the second month in a row, "Vedomosti" reports, citing a statement from the Russian Environmental Operator (REO).
In July, the indicator decreased by 13 percent year—on-year, in August - by 10 percent. In January-August 2026, through the "Incident Management" and "Public Services. We decide together" and "REO Radar" received 488,386 requests.
Independent monitoring of REO covers 59 regions and 92 settlements. During the raids, experts checked the work of 122 regional operators and examined 7,620 MSW accumulation sites.
The REO also reported a decrease in the number of search queries related to waste management issues in August. Krasnodar and Primorsky Territories, Novosibirsk Region, St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region, Buryatia and Khabarovsk Territory left the "red zone". Improvements were also recorded in Kostroma, Novgorod, Murmansk, Tyumen, Tomsk and Amur regions.
Earlier, the Russians were told about the possibility of agreeing with a regional operator on payment upon garbage collection, rather than through fixed tariffs.
