OREANDA-NEWS An abnormally high number of ticks is expected in Russia in 2026. Biologist Dmitry Safonov urged to prepare for the invasion of parasites. aif.ru .

The specialist explained that the record number of ticks this season is due to heavy rainfall in winter. It was comfortable for the parasites to winter in high snowdrifts and without severe frosts.

"The number of ticks will be huge. Due to the successful wintering, the probability of meeting them is one hundred percent. A thick layer of snow prevented the soil from freezing and reliably protected their shelters in the forest floor from the cold," Safonov said.

According to the biologist, it is possible to meet ticks in the forest as early as early March — the parasites begin to be active already at five degrees Celsius. This weather lasts for about a week in Moscow and the region, the expert emphasized.

Earlier, Russians were told the regions with the largest number of ticks. The list includes the Kostroma region, some areas of the Moscow region, Altai, Siberia and Kamchatka.
