OREANDA-NEWS  The head of the main communication department of the Russian armed forces, Deputy Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin, has been arrested in a corruption case, according to RIA Novosti, which reported on the 235th Garrison Military Court.

The court has granted the request of the investigation for a preventive measure in the form of detention for Shamarin, the agency's interlocutor said.

In recent weeks, several senior military officials have been detained. For example, on May 13, the detention of the head of the Main Personnel Department of the Ministry of Defence, Yuri Kuznetsov, was announced, and on May 17, the arrest of the former commander of the 58th Army, Ivan Popov, was reported. The former is accused of taking a bribe of a particularly large amount, while the latter is charged with fraud.In addition, on April 23, Timur Ivanov, the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Defense and the person responsible for the military construction complex, was arrested. He has been accused of bribery on a large scale and will remain in custody until June 23. According to his lawyer, Murad Musaev, Ivanov faces charges of receiving bribes valued at approximately one billion rubles. As a result, he has been temporarily suspended from his position.
