Sugar consumption has fallen to a minimum in Russia

OREANDA-NEWS Consumption of sugar and confectionery in Russia has decreased to its lowest level since 2004, reaching 28.2 kilograms per person in 2025, compared to 28.8 kilograms a year earlier. This is reported by RIA Novosti.
At the same time, the consumption of sugar in its pure form, as well as jam, jam and honey, fell from 13.2 to 12.7 kilograms, it follows from the calculations given. According to the agency, only the demand for chocolates, chocolate and other delicacies among Russians has not changed, remaining at the level of 5.8 kilograms and 4.4 kilograms per year, respectively.
Global sugar prices are forecast to rise sharply in 2026, including due to the El Nino climate phenomenon. The day before, they reached a maximum in 10 months.
Earlier, the decline in popularity of kvass in Russia was explained by the fact that the producers of the drink were forced to reduce the sugar content in it due to the need to pay excise tax.
