OREANDA-NEWS  Deputies of the State Council of Tatarstan at a meeting on Monday amended the current legislation, prohibiting minors from staying in premises where tobacco and hookahs are smoked, RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

The draft law was initiated by the Prosecutor of Tatarstan Albert Suyargulov. It is aimed at preventing the popularization of tobacco and nicotine-containing products by children and adolescents.

"It is proposed to introduce a ban on minors staying in rooms where services are provided using hookahs, as well as specially designated isolated rooms in which, based on the decision of the owner of the property ... tobacco smoking, consumption of nicotine-containing products or the use of hookahs are allowed," said Deputy Prosecutor of the republic Yulia Naumova, presenting the bill.

She noted that the presence of minors in rooms where services are provided using hookahs, as well as in specially designated isolated rooms where tobacco smoking, consumption of nicotine-containing products or use of hookahs are allowed, does not exclude their projection of the harmful use of tobacco and nicotine-containing products on themselves, which negatively affects their health and physical development, as well as exposure to second-hand smoke while in these rooms.
