OREANDA-NEWS  The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia has sent a warning to producers of chicken eggs and retail chains about the inadmissibility of unjustified price increases for these products during a seasonal increase in demand.

"In the first quarter of 2024, there was a decrease in wholesale and selling prices in this market. Taking into account the possible increase in demand for chicken eggs in connection with the upcoming Easter holiday, the FAS of Russia draws the attention of market participants to the need to curb prices for socially important products in the interests of consumers and compliance with the principles of responsible pricing," the ministry said in a statement.

The FAS also recommended that producers, in the event of a reduction in the cost of eggs, provide for an appropriate change in pricing policy. "The service recommends that retail chains, in case of a decrease in selling prices by suppliers of chicken eggs, broadcast it to end consumers," the press release says.

The day before, Rosstat reported that egg prices in the Russian Federation remained virtually unchanged from April 9 to April 15, decreasing by 0.04%. Thus, the decline slowed down again compared to 0.2% in the previous week.

Since the beginning of the year, eggs in Russia have fallen in price by 4.92%.
