OREANDA-NEWS  The gross harvest of fruits and berries in commodity farms in Russia by the end of 2023 will decrease slightly compared to last year, and will amount to 1.682 million tons. Such data was given by the executive director of the National Fruit and Vegetable Union Andrey Kazakov at the agricultural forum "Fruits and Vegetables of Russia", which is being held in Sochi.

"We see that the industry is setting records year after year. So, in 2019, the gross harvest of fruits and berries amounted to 1.18 million tons, in 2020 – already 1.3 million tons. The maximum harvest occurred in 2022, when the gross harvest reached 1.718 million tons. However, by the end of this year, a slight decrease is expected – up to 1.682 million tons," Kazakov said.

Thus, the indicator will decrease by 2%.

More than 80% of the fruits and berries harvested annually in the Russian Federation fall on the Southern and North Caucasus Federal Districts, the head of the union added.

According to his presentation, the harvest of seed crops by the end of 2023 is projected to amount to 1.593 million tons (- 9.8% by 2022). Apples account for 95% of the pome structure, and pears and quinces account for the remaining 5%.

The area of fruit and berry plantations in Russia this year will grow by 5 thousand hectares (taking into account the uprooting of old orchards) compared to last year and will reach 455 thousand hectares.

Kazakov noted that in the next three years the pace of laying young plantings will increase.
