OREANDA-NEWS  The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces has identified two new threats to Russia's military security. Valery Gerasimov shared his opinion in an interview with a popular news outlet.

NATO's desire to expand at the expense of Finland and Sweden, as well as the use of Ukraine as a tool for conducting hybrid warfare are new threats to Russia. This was stated by the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia Valery Gerasimov in an interview with the newspaper "Arguments and Facts".

"In order to neutralize these threats, the country's top leadership has set a task to adjust the Plan for the construction and Development of the Armed Forces," he said.

In particular, the Moscow and Leningrad military districts will be created, three motorized rifle divisions will be formed in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, as well as an army corps in Karelia. The purpose of these steps is to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Russia and create conditions for the socio-economic development of the country.

Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO in May 2022, but Turkey and Hungary blocked their accession to the alliance. The Turkish authorities demanded the extradition of citizens who are considered terrorists in Ankara, first of all, we are talking about the Kurdistan Workers' Party.

Sweden stated that they could not fulfill all the requirements and would not do so, pointing out, in particular, the impossibility of extraditing Swedish citizens to another country.
