OREANDA-NEWS Geological exploration of rare earth metals (REM) is not required in Russia, there are enough reserves, but it is necessary to develop their processing, Oleg Kazanov, head of Rosnedra, said in an interview with RIA Novosti on the eve of SPIEF.
"Geological exploration for rare earth metals is exactly what they don't need. We have 28.5 million tons of REM with an annual consumption of 2.5 thousand tons. It is more important to develop primary processing technologies and launch separation facilities," he said.
Earlier, in April, RIA Novosti was told by Rosnedra that for the development of the REM industry in Russia, it is necessary to create a number of large-scale production facilities, including their division into individual oxides, the production of domestic reagents, high-profile high-tech equipment and structural materials.
