OREANDA-NEWS Residents of the Kherson region have already begun to apply for citizenship of the Russian Federation, said the head of the military-civilian administration Vladimir Saldo on the air of Channel One. He also said that local residents have been waiting for such an opportunity for a long time.

"The first residents of the Kherson region have already applied for Russian citizenship," Saldo said.

On May 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed amendments to the decree on a simplified procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for residents of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine, the document was published on the Russian legal information portal. Also, the Crimean authorities noted that the centers for issuing Russian passports for residents of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, if necessary, can earn money in the republic.

On May 14, Alexander Khinshtein, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, said that Russia would facilitate the procedure for obtaining citizenship for people from the CIS, the Baltic States and neighboring countries.
