OREANDA-NEWS  Russia is closely monitoring the situation in Syria and is in contact with the country's authorities. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, writes TASS.

"At the moment, we are watching very closely what is happening in Syria. We are in constant dialogue with our Syrian friends," the Kremlin spokesman said.

Peskov added that the assistance that the Russian side will be able to provide to Syria will depend on the assessment of the situation.

On November 27, terrorist groups stationed in northern Syria went on the offensive and took control of the country's second largest city, Aleppo. Now the militants are moving south and declare their intention to capture the city of Hama, located just 209 kilometers from Damascus.
