OREANDA-NEWS  In 2023, almost half (about 50 percent) of all meat imported to Russia came from suppliers from Belarus. This was stated by the head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert, his words are quoted by TASS.

According to the results of last year, a total of 586 thousand tons of meat were imported to Russia from abroad, he said. "Belarus, the Union State, accounts for almost 50 percent of imports of meat of all kinds," Dankvert explained.

The main type of products supplied to the Russian market was poultry meat and offal, which accounted for 232 thousand tons. Beef came in second place (201 thousand tons). In turn, pork supplies to Russia amounted to 1.4 thousand tons. At the same time, the total volume of meat exports from the Russian Federation over the past year reached the level of 649 thousand tons, the head of the department concluded.

Earlier, the Rosselkhoznadzor reported the identification of 269 thousand cases of movement of goods on the territory of Russia in order to legalize unknown raw materials and products, extend the shelf life of goods, as well as the introduction of counterfeit or expired products into circulation.

Against this background, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Finance and Rosstandart gathered to tighten control over products manufactured in Russia, mainly for the production of food products. The departments intend to oblige domestic manufacturers to submit for examination the standards and specifications according to which they manufacture their goods.
