OREANDA-NEWS Russia's main New Year's tree was installed and decorated on the Kremlin's Cathedral Square, RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

The tree was delivered to the center of Moscow on Wednesday, December 13.

The age of the tree is 84 years old, the height is 25 meters, the span of the branches is 10 meters, and the diameter of the trunk is 60 centimeters. There were a total of 30 fir trees on the list of applicants this year.

The selection lasted several months - the tree should be no older than 120 years old and meet several parameters. Among them are the correct pyramidal shape of the crown, the uniform saturated color of the needles, the absence of dry and broken branches.

Another key factor is a convenient access to the chosen target so that neighboring trees are not damaged.
The ceremony of cutting down the main Christmas tree took place on Monday, December 11, in the Shchelkovo city district in the Moscow region.
