OREANDA-NEWS The Ministry of Economic Development supports the adjustment of the recycling fee for cars in the Russian Federation, and a significant one; the issue is already under consideration by the government, Deputy head of the Ministry Maxim Kolesnikov said.

He recalled that the main source of financing for the automotive industry in the Russian Federation is now scrap collection. Last year, almost half a trillion rubles were raised to the budget at his expense.

"As an agency, we support the adjustment of the waste collection. The Ministry of Industry and Trade and I see all the statistics and understand what our foreign partners who supply imported cars are doing. We understand that the waste collection needs to be adjusted, it needs to be adjusted significantly, and we fully support this," he said, speaking at the parliamentary hearings of the Federation Council on the automotive industry.

"On recycling: a line of adjustments to the rates themselves and the approach itself has already been worked out. There are certain calculations - they were made by us with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and they were verified by the Ministry of Finance. Now, according to my information, they are already under discussion in the government," he added.

Earlier, Maxim Sokolov, President of AvtoVAZ, repeatedly spoke about the need to increase recycling, referring to the sharp expansion of the Chinese automotive industry in the domestic market while at the same time the reluctance of brands from China to localize production. It was about increasing it (for passenger cars with an engine from 1 to 2 liters) from 300 thousand to 550 thousand rubles this year, to 660 thousand rubles in 2025 and to almost 1 million in 2029.

Since August 2023, according to a government decree, the recycling rate for passenger cars has been indexed by an average of 1.7-3.7 times, for light commercial vehicles - 2.5-3.4 times, for trucks - 1.7 times, for buses - 2.2-4.8 times and for electric buses – 8.7 times. Automakers with highly localized production in the Russian Federation and a special investment contract are eligible for industrial subsidies. In the industry, they are considered to be compensation for waste collection.
