OREANDA-NEWS In Russia, the introduction of a digital excise tax on tobacco and beer will begin in the first quarter of 2024, follows from the roadmap of the Ministry of Finance, available to RIA Novosti.

"The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, together with the Operator-CRPT, has been instructed to develop and approve an action plan (roadmap) for the implementation of the transition to the payment of excise duty on tobacco and nicotine-containing products from 2024 on the basis of data on its labeling by means of identification, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation sends for approval a draft action plan (roadmap) on the refusal to apply tobacco products of federal special (excise) brands from 2024. 

The introduction of digital excise will begin in the first quarter of 2024," the document says. At the same time, a pilot project on the use of labeling and traceability data during desk tax audits is planned for the period from May 2023 to July 2024.
