OREANDA-NEWS In the first five months of 2022, the number of foreign nationals who registered with the Russian migration service was 6.6 million people. This is almost twice as many as during the same period last year (3.9 million people), reports Kommersant, citing data from the Interior Ministry and calculations by the Gaidar Institute.

From the Institute's calculations, it follows that in 2019 the number of foreign nationals in Russia ranged from 9.6 million to 11.2 million people, in 2020 it decreased to 7.1 million, and in 2021 was in the range of 5.5 million to 6.9 million people.

According to the border service, in the first quarter of this year, 842 thousand people entered Russia with the purpose of employment. That's more than four times the 2021 data, but 27% below the pre-pandemic 2019 level. A total of 3.35 million migrant workers were in the country as of May 1. The majority of foreigners in Russia are citizens of CIS countries (91%).

In the middle of March Vadim Kozhenov, president of the Federation of migrants of Russia, informed that there was no large-scale outflow of labor migrants in the country.
