The organizers of the tour, digger Nikita Dubas and Sputnik CEO Alexander Kim, were found guilty under part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence"). At the digger meeting, Kim received 5.5 years in prison and Dubas received 8.5 years in prison. Both will serve their sentences in a penal colony. In addition, the court partially satisfied the victims' claim for the amount of about 34 million rubles.
Earlier it was reported that Dubas partially admitted guilt, Kim denies involvement in the tragedy.
On August 20, 2023, the participants of the tour of underground sewers went underground through a brick collector built in 1906, located in the area of Olympic Avenue. On this day, a heavy rainstorm hit the capital, which caused the water level in the city's utilities to rise sharply. Later, rescuers fished eight bodies out of the water.
